>:_What is Tilt?
Tilt is a roleplay based on my comic, Bluff!. Play will focus on, but is not limited to, the competition between and amongst bounty hunters and gangsters in a futuristic society where humanity has moved beyond Earth's limits.
>:_What is 'Bluff!'?
Bluff! is my comic that takes place in this same futuristic setting. It follows the adventures of Maddox and his unwanted sidekick, Raza. They begin collecting Maddox's various bounties, but things start to go wrong, and they get into some trouble with a big gang leader.
>:_When does this take place?
The official year for the beginning of Bluff! is 3486 (Earth years). But that doesn't mean you need to worry too much about keeping up to date with the future! One of the main aspects of Bluff! is that it's a humor comic, and is full of inconsistency. If you want to make a reference to some modern-day works, but feel it won't fit in because of the time inconsistency, feel free to make it a parody instead.
>:_What genre is this?
Bluff! itself is a humor comic, primarily. It has secondary elements of action and drama. So, with that in mind, feel free to relax a little! Mistakes and cliché are welcome, if not encouraged. The cast of Bluff! is very eccentric, and I'd love to see some of that same energy of fun weirdness here.
>:_So, what sort of control do I have?
Generally, it is preferred if your character is human/Martian, though a few aliens may be allowed. The reason for this is because the roleplay will be taking place in the Milky Way, where, as you can tell, there is primarily a human population. Your character can be a bounty hunter or a gangster (which will be elaborated later). Each character will be able to have one or two special abilities, like super powers. I will provide some examples of these later on.
>:_I wanna be an alien!
If you would like to play as an alien, please make a private message requesting so. Playing as an alien is more complicated, because you'll need to make up a different cultural background for your character... except in the case of aliens who have lived on human territories their whole lives.

Nope! I expect there will probably be more bounty hunters than gangsters. In which case, you can make up NPC gangsters for your characters to pursue. Which you'll probably be doing anyways!

Humans inhabit Earth, Earth's Moon, and Mars. In addition, humanity also operates numerous space stations within the general proximity of these inhabited planets/satellites.
Earth - Humanity's home planet. Due to many scientific breakthroughs, its surface has been restored to its former glory: full of plant and animal life. Most cities and towns operate above the surface, on plates anchored to large rods. Some cities can afford recent technology that allows for permanent levitation using alien materials, independent of an energy source. Has recently come to a general peace agreement, because they realized how large the universe is and how many more people they can get into fights with.
Interesting facts: Every five years, there is an international scavenger hunt which any person is free to participate in. A consensus was made to agree that Queen is the greatest Earth band of all time. Many recognize Bohemian Rhapsody as the planetary anthem.
The Moon - Features Earth's first off-planet colonies. Since the colonization of Mars, excitement about the Moon has calmed down considerably. Generally governed and operated by various countries from Earth. Sectors are often divided by their governing countries, and referred to as such (ex.: American sector is called 'America'.) Has a large number of scientific facilities and other research centers. Climatized to support life.
Some people refer to the Moon as 'Selene'.
Mars - The first planet (besides Earth itself) that Earth has colonized. While Mars has less than a twentienth of Earth's population, it is steadily growing. The climatization of Mars has been slower than that of the Moon, and thus, Mars supports less life forms than its counterparts. A strange result of the colonization of Mars has been bizarre, mostly cosmetic mutations in the human race. The mutations usually occur over a prolonged period of time, and are passed down. The most common mutations are pointed ears and bizarre hair and eye pigmentation. Rarely, mutations can result in serious illness. With no real evidence behind the mutations, it is believed the mutations may be a result of contact with native bacteria.

Kismet - Kismet is an unknown, small planet outside of the known galaxies. Its location is uncertain. Its population is secluded, and interplanetary travel is usually prohibited. The planet is at peace, and operates under an elective monarchy. Most Kismetics have dark-colored skin and eccentric hair colors. Kismetics are highly similar to humans, save for a few key differences. Kismetics have eidetic memory and are capable of various psychic abilities. These abilities can vary from person to person. Kismetics have a 20% longer lifespan than humans.

Koalemos - Koalemos is a planet thought to be fictional by most. The planet is said to be inhabited by many bizarre creatures, such as sparkling canines and winged humanoids. It is also said to be full of life and rich with rainbows and sunshine. Most who claim to be from Koalemos appear to be suffering from severe psychiatric delusions.
They also speak of its satellite, Momus, a place where Koalemos' darker residents have been exiled for cruel and violent behavior.

>:_About Bounty Hunters
Bounty hunters have become an incredibly valuable resource in the space age. As humanity spreads itself throughout the galaxy, it becomes harder to efficiently enforce the law. And so, an official intergalactic association for bounty hunters was established- the Fugitive Recovery Syndicate (FRS). To become a member, you must earn your official license by attending 2-4 years of academy and passing a mandatory test. Once initiated, you begin at rank Theta. As you ascend the ranks, your missions become more difficult, but you will gain more money. To fulfill rank ascension, you must work towards the top of your rank, then complete a request for a bounty of the next ascending rank. (ex.: You reach the top of Theta, and request an Eta-rank bounty.)
The Syndicate's Milky Way headquarters are a large prison complex satelliting Mars. There are several secondary offices satelliting Earth and roaming surrounding areas.
Bounty hunters compete to capture fugitives and packages by any means necessary. However, killing innocents is strictly prohibited, and will result in immediate discharge and possible jail time. Failure to cooperate will result in an FRS listing for bounty.
It is generally frowned upon for Syndicate hunters to take unlisted jobs, and may result in penalties.
Black market bounty hunters operate outside of the Syndicate, and therefore work differently. There are no ranks based on skill level. To earn jobs, you must actively seek them, and gain a reputation, so to garner attention to your skill. Additionally, black market bounty hunters are considered to be criminals by law enforcement, and so they may be pursued by Syndicate hunters.
Many bounty hunters will compete or collaborate when necessary or if desired. Competition is most likely, however, and can lead to feuds and intense aggression amongst the ranks.

Alpha (1) - Special rank. Maintains a select few elite members (under 50 units at one time, fixed). Highly skilled, highly efficient, and usually employed by various governments. Permanent ranking. Non-playable.
Beta (2) - Much more numerous than Alpha (approx. 200-400 units at once, not fixed). Top tier of regular bounty hunters. Receives most challenging assignments. Fluid ranking.
Gamma (3) - 500-1,000 units, not fixed. Second tier. Members are slightly below the skill level of Beta. Fluid ranking.
Delta (4) - 2,000-5,000 units, not fixed. Third tier. Slightly greater difference from Gamma. Fluid ranking.
Epsilon (5) - 8,000-12,000 units, not fixed. Fourth tier. Even larger difference from Delta. Fluid ranking.
Zeta (6) - 12,000-20,000 units, not fixed. Fifth tier. Still greater difference from Epsilon. Fluid ranking.
Eta (7) - 25,000-40,000 units, not fixed. Sixth tier. Very large difference from Zeta. Fluid ranking.
Theta (8) - 50,000-100,000 units, not fixed. Final tier. Immense difference from Eta. Fluid ranking.
Iota (9) - Special rank. Members are incredibly inept and unskilled. Usually assigned to community service. Semi-permanent ranking (everyone will always know you were an Iota.) Often used as an insult. No license required.

Tau - These hunters are specialized in sending or retrieving packages.
Sigma - These hunters are specialized in capturing people.
Psi - These hunters will do the work of Tau and Sigma.
Syndicate and black market ranks can be combined. (ex.: Delta-Tau, Epsilon-Psi, Gamma-Sigma)

fixed units - Ranking can maintain no more than a certain cap number of units. For example, rank Alpha can hold no more than 50 members at once.
non-fixed units - No cap number of units. Units vary depending on the inward and outward flow of ranked hunters.
permanent ranking - This rank is permanently applied, like a badge. Members may leave the ranking (to join another, or to retire), but maintain the recognition of their former rank. (ex.: A former Alpha joins the Beta ranks, and is recognized as a Beta-Alpha. An Alpha retires, becoming recognized as a Post-Alpha.)
fluid ranking - Members will scale the ranks depending on their current skill level. (ex.: Epsilon can ascend to Delta, and Delta can descend to Epsilon.)
legal - A nickname given to Syndicate bounty hunters. (ex.: "A couple of legals started coming after me the other day!")
chi - Pronounced 'kai'. A nickname given to bounty hunters who have worked in both the black market and Syndicate. Named to mimic the ranking system and convey a 'crossing-over' (X).

With expansion into space comes expansion of crime. With the vast expanses of space now in their reach, it's easier than ever for gangs to form and spread. Gangs can come in a variety of forms, ranging in their purposes and practices. Most commonly, though, they intend to make a profit off of their crime. Gangs must fend for themselves and compete with rivals, the police, and bounty hunters. Like black market bounty hunters, they must rely heavily on reputation to get an edge- and make sure that information falls into the right hands. Gangsters are the primary employers of black market bounty hunters, and who they answer to.

Honey Venus and the Venus Armata
Little is known about Honey Venus' true identity. What is known, however, is that Venus is a master of seduction and persuasion, as well as an incredibly dangerous adversary. Her methods are often cruel and fierce. She is incredibly narcissistic, though reacts violently to questions about her past. She operates the Venus Armata, sometimes referred to as the 'Copperheads'. The Venus Armata provides escort services and protection - for those who can afford the price. However, Venus' prices are high for a reason; word has spread about the high quality services she provides. And about the number of bounty hunters she's personally taken out of commission - around 127.
Paracelsus and the Arcanum
Paracelsus is known to be a highly talented metalworker. Like Venus, he discloses little personal information. However, in contrast, he tends to behave more civil, presenting himself as a businessman. The Arcanum deal in precious metals and gem stones, as well as other rarities. Their most profitable export is gold, which has become incredibly rare over the past thousand years. They also have a team of expert repossession agents, should you breach their agreements. Rumors circulate that 'Paracelsus' is not just a title for the group's leader, and that he is actually an alchemist, working to create the elixir of life. Others say that his touch will turn objects into gold.

>:_Tips for Making Characters
Naming: Humanity has incorporated the originally religious concept of a middle name and now established it universally to distinguish the population more easily. The general scheme for naming characters in <i>Bluff!</i> incorporates a character's design or powers. The main character of <i>Bluff!</i> can be seen as an example of this.

Other characters who follow this naming mechanism are Tartarus Keraun Raiden, Vesper Jehuti Marrok, Chang Huang Xian, and Roxanne Seraphina de Sol.
Raza, a Kismetic alien who follows Maddox, is a deviation from this pattern. Her name, Raza Kir Azabi, combines Japanese and Arabic 'sounds' to create an alien-sounding name. Her father is named Kadar, and her sister is named Kala. Their names have no basis in real language (except Kadar), and thus, have no meaning.
The 'Kir' segment of Raza's name is only used when addressing her in full. When referring to her by last name, one would say 'Azabi', and not 'Kir Azabi'.
General tips: There are several important things to keep in mind when making a character.
-Do they have a theme? How is it incorporated into their design and personality?
-What sort of special ability/abilities do they have? How do they work at an advantage? How do they work at a disadvantage?
-Are they competitive or co-operative?
-How talented are they? What are they bad at?
-What's their quirks? The most noticeable aspects of their personality - the good and the bad?
-What's their motivation?
-What are they like, personally? What do they like to do, or what other career might they have?
-Where did they grow up, and how?
-What's funny about them?
-What sort of culture are they involved in?
-What level are they at? Are they a low-ranking bounty hunter? A Beta-Psi Chi? A powerful gang leader? A lackey? The guy who gets the coffee? Are they just some completely hopeless Iota dimwit?
-What do they like, or believe in?
-What kind of outlook do they have on life, socialization, aliens, and expansion into the galaxy?
-Do they have a family? Who do they love? Do they love?

Special skill: Usually has very good luck. However, his luck has started to decline more recently...
Appearance: Maddox, as a Martian, has several mutations. His ears are pointed, his short, messy hair is light blue, and he has yellow eyes. His face is youthful, though he usually looks angry (unless he's trying to be cool). On the short side, he stands at 5' 4", and weighs 131 lbs. He wears a black and white vest with a coattail in the back, resembling a bird tail. The numbers "777" are written on the back of his vest. He wears black 3/4ths pants, black gloves, and black boots. He also has a special pair of blue goggles that link up to his spaceship's computer. This is generally his preferred attire, though he will wear other clothes (as long as they are black and white).
Personality: Maddox's personality has several layers to it. The personality he advertises is cool, clever, wild, brave, and highly resourceful. However, this is merely a facade to boost his ego. Maddox's 'true' personality is highly eccentric. He is prone to obsession and is easily agitated. He completely despises company and prefers to be far away from other people. He is only as brave as he is lucky, and when that luck runs out, he hides in the cupboards with his ship under lockdown. Obsessed with his luck, his spaceship is filled with numerous lucky charms, such as his pet magpies named Sorrow and Joy (who he often brings on missions, decked out with special equipment). However, Maddox does have a good side. Although he'd never admit it, he can become attached to people and will worry about them. This generally tends to force him even further away from others.
History: The only thing Maddox will tell anyone about is past was that he "breezed through academy at the top of his class". He has only been hunting for two years. He seems to have no close family.
Strength: Highly skilled shipbuilding engineer, passionate
Weakness: Completely neurotic, egocentric, and rude
Other info: His spaceship is called the Paragon, and operates with an artificial intelligence program he created, called PAINe (Paragon Artifical Intelligence Network). PAINe is programmed to be female, and generally teases Maddox, though, is loyal to him. |

Her father is a feared and respected man. Most Martians are familiar with the family name and are careful to think twice before crossing Sasha just in case it might make her father angry.
Special skill: Sasha is so purty she can instantly capture the attention and slavish devotion of most adult, unmarried men. The more dim-witted they are, the better it works (even when Sasha doesn't want it to). She also has the uncanny ability to run in high heels.
Appearance: Sasha's appearance is FRIKKIN PERFECT. She is always sure to wear the most expensive, stylish clothing possible and you will never catch her with dirt under her fingernails or a hair out of place. She has platinum blonde hair, smooth skin, and a perfect body and face (for a Martian). She is normally seen wearing a top-of-the-line pantsuit or dress from Chanel or Calvin Klein, perhaps.
Personality: Loves money. For all her beauty, Sasha is an absolute zero in the personality department, and she never cares about anyone else but herself and her appearance. She is sweet when people are looking up to her, but her personality turns harsh, ugly, and even violent at the drop of a hat. She is attracted to excitement and danger.
History: She was raised by one of the richest men of Mars and she has never wanted for anything in her entire life. Her attraction to danger, and father's protection has led her to become comfortable with gangsters and the underworld.

Special skill: Usually has very good luck. However, his luck has started to decline more recently...
Appearance: Maddox, as a Martian, has several mutations. His ears are pointed, his short, messy hair is light blue, and he has yellow eyes. His face is youthful, though he usually looks angry (unless he's trying to be cool). On the short side, he stands at 5' 4", and weighs 131 lbs. He wears a black and white vest with a coattail in the back, resembling a bird tail. The numbers "777" are written on the back of his vest. He wears black 3/4ths pants, black gloves, and black boots. He also has a special pair of blue goggles that link up to his spaceship's computer. This is generally his preferred attire, though he will wear other clothes (as long as they are black and white).
