Sailor Moon KiSS Dolls!

What are Kiss dolls?

The Kisekae Set system(KiSS) is a Japanese graphics system originally developed to create dress-up games of virtual dolls, typically anime-characters. But unlike paper-dolls, KiSS dolls can feature animation, interaction, and sound. KiSS dolls are typically archived in .LZH format. To interact with the dolls offline, you need to download and install a KiSS viewer (see below). To play with dolls online using the DollPlayer, you don't need to download or install anything! All you need is the latest version of Adobe Flash.

Where does the word Kisekae come from?

Kisekae takes its name from the Japanese term kisekae ningyou, which refers to playing dress-up with dolls that originally appeared in children's manga.

Clicking "Download" gives me an .LZH file. What do I do with this?

You need a KiSS viewer to play with KiSS dolls offline. For example: Download and install the KiSS viewer of your choice. Run it, and then open up the .LZH file you downloaded to play with that KiSS doll. More KiSS viewers can be found here.

How do I use expansion packs?

When playing with dolls in the online DollPlayer, you don't need to do anything special because the required sets are loaded automatically. To open up an expansion pack in an offline KiSS viewer, first make sure you have downloaded any required sets (called a base set). Load the base set in the KiSS viewer. Then Load the expansion pack using whatever instructions are included with the Kiss Viewer.
  • PlayFKISS: Go to File --> Open Other --> Open Expansion...
  • UltraKiss: Go to File --> Add...

I want to create my own KiSS Dolls!

It's pretty easy to make your own KiSS Dolls. But there are a number of different tools and approaches you can use. I think the best tools to start with are PlayFKISS and UltraKiss(above), because you can practice using the doll sets you already own. Both PlayFKISS and UltraKiss have tools for editing and making your own doll sets. Grab some Photoshop plugins and you are ready to go! Here are some more links you might find helpful:

Are KiSS dolls safe for kids?

No. Some KiSS dolls contain graphic cartoon nudity, and some don't, according to the artist's taste and discretion. Many times, at first glance, a doll would seem to have permanently attached underwear on. Don't be fooled- The underwear might just be fixed. Clicking on it several times will cause it to become unfixed and removable. And there other techniques which artists may use to delay or reveal nudity. To be on the safe side, KiSS dolls should not be used by anyone under age 14. Make sure you fully screen all the doll-files before letter younger children play with them. Children under 14 should not use the DollPlayer at
